Abstract:

Compounds having the structure of Formula M(L.sub.A).sub.x(L.sub.B).sub.y and Formula III, ##STR00001## are disclosed. In Formula M(L.sub.A).sub.x(L.sub.B).sub.y, Ligand L.sub.A is ##STR00002## and ligand L.sub.B is a mono anionic bidentate ligand. In these compounds, metal M has an atomic number greater than 40; x is 1, 2, or 3; y is 0, 1, or 2; x+y is the oxidation state of metal M; L.sup.11 represents a linking group selected from alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, and heteroaryl; L.sup.12 represents a linking group selected from NR.sup.15 and PR.sup.15; each R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, R.sup.11, R.sup.12, R.sup.13, R.sup.14, and R.sup.15 is independently selected from a group of substituents, wherein any adjacent substituents are optionally joined to form a fused or unfused ring; and L.sub.A and L.sub.B are optionally joined to form a ligand that is at least tetradentate. Formulations and devices, such as OLEDs, that include the compound of Formula M(L.sub.A).sub.x(L.sub.B).sub.y(L.sub.C).sub.z are also described.
