ORGANIC ELECTROLUMINESCENT MATERIALS AND DEVICES

Last updated:

Abstract:

An improved organic light emitting device is disclosed that includes an emissive layer between an anode and a cathode, where the emissive layer has an aggregate of one or more neutral transition metal complexes having a square planar geometry. At least one of the one or more neutral transition metal complexes has a coordination metal selected from Ni, Pd, and Au. When a voltage is applied across the anode and cathode at room temperature, the emissive layer emits a luminescent radiation that has a first luminescent radiation component produced from exciplex formation by the transition metal complexes present in the emissive layer, and the first luminescent radiation component has a peak maximum wavelength .lamda..sub.max that is .ltoreq.500 nm at room temperature.
