Abstract:

A compound comprising a ligand L.sub.A of Formula I coordinated to a metal M as represented by the dotted lines ##STR00001## wherein ring A is a 5-membered or 6-membered carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring, and ring B is a multicyclic ring system comprising four to eight fused 5-membered or 6-membered, carbocyclic or heterocyclic rings; wherein the ring B includes a structure of Formula II ##STR00002## wherein ring C is a 5-membered or 6-membered carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring, and the dotted lines of Formula II represent fusion of the structure of Formula II as part of the multicyclic ring system of ring B; T.sup.1, T.sup.2, and T.sup.3 are independently selected from N or C; and L is a linker L.sup.2-L.sup.1 with L.sup.2 and L.sup.1 independently selected from the group consisting of O, S, NR.sup.N, CR.sup.1R.sup.2, CR.sup.3R.sup.4, SiR.sup.1R.sup.2, and SiR.sup.3R.sup.4; wherein at least one of L.sub.1 or L.sub.2 is CR.sup.1CR.sup.2 or SiR.sup.1R.sup.2; and the metal M is selected from the group consisting of Ir, Rh, Re, Ru, Os, Pt, Pd, Au, and Cu. An OLED that includes an organic layer, and the organic layer comprises a compound of Formula I above. An OLED that includes an organic layer including a compound with a ligand L.sub.A of Formula I, and a consumer product with an OLED.
