Abstract:
Cathode active materials have composite particles each with a base particle having the following formula: Li.sub..alpha.Ni.sub.xM.sub.yCo.sub.zO.sub.2, wherein 0.95.ltoreq..alpha..ltoreq.1.5, 0.6.ltoreq.x.ltoreq.1.0, 0.ltoreq.y.ltoreq.0.5, 0.ltoreq.z.ltoreq.0.5; x+y+z=1; and M is one of Mn and Al, and coating particles coating each base particle, the coating particles having the following formula: Li.sub.aNi.sub.bMn.sub.cCo.sub.dO.sub.2, wherein 0.95.ltoreq.a.ltoreq.1.5, 0.ltoreq.b.ltoreq.0.35, 0.ltoreq.c.ltoreq.1.0, 0.ltoreq.d.ltoreq.1.0 and b+c+d=1.
